The Issue of Privacy
People don't tend to appreciate or fully understand the concept of privacy. This includes family members who don't respect your personal space as well as the general population (i.e. all of us) who don't respect the privacy of celebrities. This also includes people who have no life other than to stick their nose into other people's business and spread rumours. One phrase no one seems to get is the phrase "It's none of your business (i.e. let me live in peace you friggin nosey bastard)". This rant is for all you nosey people out there in attempt to explain to you why I find you irritating and why I may be very rude to you when you stick your nose in my business.
First comes the issue of family members respecting your personal space. My space is my own, not only my personal bubble but also my sacred living space. Family members of my nationality don't get the idea of personal space. "We're family! Why do you need personal space? We should know everything about you. Why do you need privacy?" This is a very blood boilingly irritating phrase I hear from my family once I try to explain to them not to barge in and out of my living space without knocking like it's some sort of hotel as well as not to pester me about every tiny detail of my life. What is this, the 1800s?! So people may have been so closely knit in traditions before that there was no comprehension of the word privacy especially as there weren't many democratic rights among people. Hello we don't live in the 1800s anymore! Everyone is entitled to their own personal privacy not only from family, even from the bloody government. You don't have to know every damn thing about me. Live with it.
Now we move on to general privacy issues such as those of famous people. I admit I do like reading celebrity gossip mags from time to time but it doesn't interest me that much anymore. I used to read 'em like the bible. I have since stopped caring about the personal lives of celebrities as much as I used to. I don't say that I don’t care about their lives at all because, well, who wouldn't care if their favourite actor got engaged or something. Why do I not really care if Britney's pregnant, if Tom Cruise is marrying someone so much younger than him, or if Britney bleached her asshole (Note: She really did bleach her asshole)? It is because I don't really know them, it's their life they can do what they want with it. There's nothing wrong about knowing the latest gossip or telling people what you think of it when someone asks. It's just being totally crazy over the news like the actor or actress in question is someone you know personally that is slightly annoying. Course this privacy issue only slightly annoys me because when it comes to the likes of Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, or Shah Rukh Khan I am a crazy fangirl but it's mostly about their moves, characters, appearance and if they get married or engaged or whatever. Other issues and other celebs, well they can do what they want I don't care. They have it hard enough already trying to keep their relationships and traumas out of the tabloids (mostly...).
This is what really bugs me. People who stick their nose into your business and spread rumours about you. So much so that you have to avoid being in the public eye in some cases just to get a few moments of privacy without severe repercussions. I mean, live your own life people not mine. Topics of conversation among all generations of people of my nationality: who got married, who got divorced, who is a slut, who has a girlfriend(s) or boyfriend(s) and the name, age, place of residence, income, job, etc of the girlfriend(s) or boyfriend(s), who is about to die, who was born, who said what about who behind someone's back, etc. Do they ever discuss about themselves and normal stuff they are interested in? For the large part no. They find out all this "hot gossip", judge you, and then spread rumours so everyone hates you. Not only this but they're generally hypocrites too. God, what happened to honesty and being frank as opposed to being hypocritical liars? I am proud of my culture but you see why I am not proud of my people?
In conclusion, my life is my own so is my living space and my activities. The same goes for you and celebrities. So please, live your own damn life not someone else's. As for my brief mention of the government, gather what you want for security purposes but the rest is “none of your business!” The same goes for all of you and it’s a phrase you can throw at others to say “Hey! That’s none of your business unless I choose to make it so, so buzz off!”
