Song of a Siren

Somewhere on an island,
Lost at sea,
There was a sailor,
A victim of mutiny

But little did they know,
His greedy crew,
That he was marooned on paradise,
With a siren in his field of view

He secretly watched her bathe,
Watched her dance in the water,
Watched her play,
Entranced by her song,
He wouldn’t last without her for long

“Every heart wishes for me,
Their lips long for my skin,
Who shall my next victim,
Whose affections shall I win

By my beauty,
I do tempt them,
By my charm,
They wish me no harm,
For whoever hears my song,
Is enchanted forever,
Madly in love with me,
Wanting to part with me never”

As if in answer to her song,
He called out to her,
Unsuspecting,
Oblivious to her plan,
For he lost a battle with his heart,
Affected by love’s poisoned dart

She beckoned him forth,
And he followed her to his death,
For she killed him,
The cruel witch,
Then she sang again,
To another,
Her plan without a glitch
